International Speaker

Associate Professor Chris McLeod, MBCHB, PhD is from Durban, South Africa, and is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic in the United States.  He completed his medical training at the University of Cape Town, and then finished his PhD at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.  He is the Clinical Director of Cardiovascular Diseases at Mayo Clinic, Florida and also Director of the Adult Congenital Arrhythmia Clinic.  A major focus of his clinical efforts is focused on the treatment of ventricular arrhythmias in this group of patients.  The preponderance of sudden cardiac in this group has provided a major motivation for clinical and translational research, with the latter aimed at developing novel tools to treat this life-threatening cardiac rhythm.  He also has several grants focused on the development of a novel method to characterize, map and ablate fascicular arrhythmias and ventricular fibrillation. He has co-authored several books and numerous publications on these topics and is a nationally recognized.

Dr Tim Betts has been a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at Oxford University Hospitals, UK, since 2004. He trained in the UK and Chicago. He performs catheter ablation, including AF and VT ablation, complex device implants, lead extractions and left atrial appendage occlusion. He has an active clinical research programme in AF mapping and cardiac resynchronization therapy. He runs a number of annual EP and device teaching courses, is an invited speaker at international symposia, has published over 100 original manuscripts and is co-author of a number of textbooks including the Oxford Handbooks of Pacing and ICDs and of Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology.
